Welcome to Handmade Studio Trust

Our Impact

At Handmade Studio Trust, creativity builds confidence.

We support adults with disabilities to learn traditional weaving, develop life skills, and form lasting friendships in a safe, inclusive space. Through hands-on craft, our clients grow in independence, self-esteem, and purpose — while sharing their talents with the wider community.

Every item made tells a story of care, skill, and personal achievement.

Our Story

How Handmade Studio Trust Began

Handmade Studio was founded in 1983 by Veronica Larsen and Norah Jelly, who saw a need for creative opportunities for adults with disabilities who were being excluded from other programs.

Their goal: to build a warm, inclusive community where creativity, independence, and self-esteem can flourish.

What we do

Creativity. Community. Confidence.

At Handmade Studio Trust, we provide a creative and inclusive space where adults with disabilities can learn, grow, and thrive through craft.

What We Do

🧶

Creative Skills

Our clients learn traditional weaving using NZ wool and wooden looms. We also make:

  • Soft toys (teddies, bunnies & more)
  • Handmade garments and accessories
  • Bowl cosies, coasters, throws & face masks

Each piece is one-of-a-kind and made with care.

👗

Custom Garments

We offer made-to-measure garments using our studio’s woven fabric. Work with our seamstress to create something personal and unique.

🎓

We Educate

More than craft — we build:

  • Confidence
  • Friendships
  • A sense of belonging

The studio is a safe, supportive place to be yourself.

🌱

Personal Growth

We host:

  • Monthly Funday Fridays
  • Public Stitching Days
  • Holiday crafts
  • Market stalls across Canterbury

We create, celebrate, and connect.
